Abstract

Profile extrusion die head with internal passage profiles constricted to allow radial divergence of the flow path just prior to developing the outlet profile form, is esp. useful for extruding material prone to longitudinal orientation during extrusion, i.e. fibre filled compsns., crystallisable polyolefin or elastomeric compsns. etc. e.g. fibre reinforced rubber hose or sheet. Radial divergence of the flow path after passing through the focal zone for longitudinal orientation deranges the melt structure to obtain a more balanced or random distribution of longitudinal and radial or lateral orientation of material in the prod. cross-section. This for e.g. pipes, increases their burst strength and flexibility by comparison with hose of longitudinally oriented material.
