Abstract

The automatic clutch operator has a piston and vacuum cylinder attached to the clutch pedal. The cylinder is connected by a relay operated valve (49) to a vacuum reservoir, whose vacuum is provided by a pipe with non-return valve (63) to the engine inlet manifold. The gear lever has a sensor which detects the grip of the driver's hand. The sensor signal is amplified and fed to the relay, which opens the valve (49). The valve connects the vacuum cylinder to the reservoir, the clutch pedal is depressed and the clutch disengages. Similarly, as the driver's hand is removed from the gear lever, the clutch re-engages. The device is suitable for invalid cars.
