Abstract

Radio antennae are particularly intended for transmitting purposes and for fitting to vehicles, based on the use of carbon fibres laid in a resin. The design is intended to provide an efficiency some three times greater than that obtained from purely metallic antennae together with high mechanical strength. The design, equally applicable to whip, tubular, conical and aerodynamically shaped antennae requires that 10 micron diameter carbon fibres are laid lengthways in a resin (1) and are mutually capacitively coupled. Excitation is by one or more metallic elements (2a) connected to the transmitter and receiver their length being not greater than half the length of the carbon fibre used.
