Abstract

The edge stiffener and jointing element is used in the construction of sheet metal ventilation ducts. It consists of hollow longitudinal square edge sections (6, 8) wit one corner of each square remaining open and one adjoining side bent inwards so that one of the corner angles is less than 90 deg.. At a junction, two such sections are clamped together by an internal bent sheet (9) under the action of a clamping bolt (10) passing through one of its flanges. The sheets (3, 7) are pushed into the open slots in the sections, so that as the clamping bolt is tightened, causing rotation of the inside section, they become trapped. An additional form of three-piece clamping plate (12) can be used, and is also retained by the bolt, if it is desired to join four sheets of material at one location.
