Abstract

The starter, for a high pressure discharge lamp, consists of a triac that discharges a capacitor into the lamp's primary stabilising inductor. A voltage divider bridge supplies the triac control circuit. The capacitor charging circuit consists of a diode and resistor in series with the capacitor. The charging resistor is connected to the voltage divider and consists of a PTC resistor. The charging diode is shunted by a capacitor. The advantage lies in that the starter does not continue to operate when the lamp has failed.
