Abstract

The hydraulic door closing damper has an internal spring providing the closing force. A sliding piston is mounted on a rod which hinges about pivots as the door rotates. The rod slides through a cylinder and the flow of oil through the gap between the rod and cylinder provides the damping force. A flexible rubber boot surrounds the rod and is held in place against the piston by the spring and on the rod by a sprung circlip. The boot prevents seepage of hydraulic oil from the damper.
