Abstract

A sound proof screen for outdoor use, has panels (A) with a core (1) of e.g. glass fibre or cellular material between metal sheets. One metal sheet (3) faces the screened side and the other sheet (2) has perforations (4) in it so that the noise reaches the core to be absorbed by it. The edges of the holes protrude, preventing damp and water penetrating them. Each circular hole has a diameter of between five and fifteen millimetres, preferably twelve millimetres, and together they constitute twenty-five to thirty-five, preferably thirty per cent of the total surface. The rims jut out by between one and three millimetres, preferably one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half millimetres. One core layer (6) has a density of between eighty and one hundred kg/m3 to absorb low frequencies. The other layer (7) has a density of between thirty and forty kg/m3 to absorb medium and high frequencies. Each layer is roughly forty millimetres thick.
