Abstract

Vine harvest sampling press., as in the parent patent, is used to determine the quantity of must which can be obtained from a sample of grapes. The sample of grapes if lifted from the vine harvest by a screw elevator which is suspended vertically from a weighing machine above the harvest, the elevator cylindrical casing being open at the lower feed end, pref. with the screw projecting beyond the casing. The top of the casing is closed and an uppermost section of the casing is formed by a cylindrical grating through which must is expressed. This rapid, consistent sampling process requires little operator skill.
