Abstract

A simplified reversed running protection device is for an electricity meter. A rotor (1) on a shaft (5) supported by a hub (6) has a projection (11) on its underside. A pawl (7) is pivoted on a shaft (8 in a fixed support (9), the forward end (10) of the pawl engaging with the projection (11) on the rotor support, and its rear end resting against the fixed stop (2) under the influence of gravity. When the meter rotor (1) revolves in the forwards direction the projection (11), by virtue of its shape, slides past the end of the pawl, experiencing only a slight retarding force from the light weight of the pawl; the shape of the projection (11) is such that reverse running is blocked by the projection (11) engaging with the end (10) of the pawl, thrusting the other end (12) against the stop (2). The pawl is preferably made of a light thermoplastic material.
