Abstract

8-Azaprostanoic acid derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are novel cpds. (where R = H or 1-4C alky alkyl and Z = a trans double bond or a satd bond represents the alpha- or beta-configuration or their mixtures and R1 = H or methyl) (I) have analogues activity to that of prostaglandins; they are bronchodilators, control or prevent hypertensin, CNS depressants useful as sedatives, labour inducers in pregnacy and regulators of the menstrual cycle. They are particularly useful as bronchodilators and may be used in asthma, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pneumoniae and emphysema. They are administered orally parenterally or by inhalation in doses of 0.01-10 mg/kg.
