Abstract

Baby's nappies of composite construction incorporate an external cloth cover, an impermeable lining, a pocket for holding replaceable absorbant wadding and a soft, permeable inner cover. The sides are lined with elastic tape which is stitched to puckered cloth borders which allow the elastic to stretch and contract but which prevent the elastic from becoming twisted or curled. The corners of the nappy are fitted with tie-tapes. The elastic is kept straight and smooth, hence more comfortable, even after repeated washing cycles, than garments with elastic running freely between double hems. The inner cover is pref. made of 'chlorofibres' such as 'RHOVYL'(RTM) or 'ISOVYL CLEVYL' (RTM) or of a polypropylene fabric. The impermeable layer is pref. of PVC. The cover may be of (brushed) nylon or polyester fabric.
