Abstract

Food block for animals is prepd. by reacting CaO with a sugar contg. liquid, using a CaO/sugar prod. ratio of 1:3 to 1-7 and opt. 1:4, to produce a liquid mix which is poured into a mould and left until the liquid hardens to form a solid block. Pref. additives are introduced partic., a slight excess of sugar prod. to counteract the bitter tastes of the succharates formed in the first reaction. A cereal is pref. also added, partic. barley flour, which is dry-mixed with the CaO before adding to the sugar prod. The sugar prod. is pref. molasses or freshly prepd. beet sugar pulp. Less CaO is required than previous products and no heating is required.
