Abstract

Contact lenses are resiliently retained in agripper at the lower end of suspension on the underside of a cover which closes a vessel in which a sterilising liq. is deep enough to immerse the suspended lenses; the vessel sits, with only its top projecting, in a container in which electrodes, having externally-projecting plug pins; are immersed in a predetermined vol. of an electrically-conductive liq. Used for sterilising contact lenses , esp. those made of flexible, synthetic plastics matl. The predetermined vol. of electrically-conductive liq. which is resistance heated between a pari of electrodes is chosen to boil off completely, thus breaking the circuit, in a time which will ensure that the lenses become completely aseptic; this simple, automatic cut-off obviates the need for thermostats, switches and operator surveillance. The steriliser is compact, inexpensive and plugs in directly to apoint, or an adaptor, with no intermediate power lead. The lenses are supported, completely strees-free, thoughout the sterilising process.
