Abstract
The method of measuring the mass flow of a fluid flowing in a known direction along a channel (11) whose walls (12) form heat sinks involves placing one or more thermoresistances (10) in the flow, applying an electrical heating current to these thermoresistances, and determining the thermal transfer within the fluid. The thermoresistances are actuated so that an alternating flow is set up superimposed upon the main flow. This is achieved by applying electrical heating current pulses to the thermoresistances at regular intervals, the thermal transfer being determined during the time intervals between the heating pulses. A diaphragm (13, 14) pierced with a slit or an orifice is placed in the flow to ensure that the flow velocity on the sensor is greater than that in the remainder of the channel. The diameter of the slit or orifice is approx. 10 mm.
