Abstract

The steering system is for a vehicle, where each wheel to be steered is mounted on an inverted L-shaped bracket, so that the wheel axle extends horizontally at the bottom, and the whole bracket swings about a vertical axis. The system has a toothed belt drive mounted between the bracket and the steering wheel column, with a pinion on the end of the column and a larger gear wheel on the bracket, with an internally toothed belt passing around them. Meshing with both wheels, is a second pinion, the same size as the first. This pinion is of plastics, preferably tetrafluorethylene, and the other two wheels are of aluminium.
