Abstract
The temperature monitor is intended for electric motor windings and consists of a fusible tin foil (2) connected in series with the motor excitation winding and interrupting the latter supply current on overloading. The tin foil is located inside the casting (1) that contains the excitation winding (3) and is connected at one end to one end of this winding and at the other end to one (7) of the external terminals. The external terminals are set into the side of the casting. The tin foil is chosen to melt below 250 deg.C. The advantage of the arrangement lies in its being a very cheap method of providing an overload protection.
