Abstract
The process is intended for engines with a number of combustion chambers operating in sequence. It uses a lean fuel mixture whose air/fuel ration exceeds 16. When the power output demand increases, additional fuel is supplied to at least one of the combustion chambers in proportion with the amount of air drawn-in by that chamber, such that the total mixture in that chamber is richer than the stoichiometric ratio. The proportion of rich mixture combustions in a predetermined total number of successive combustions is selected such that the desired total power output is produced. Additional fuel supply is available within a wide speed range, including medium an dhigh speeds. The exhaust gases of all combustion chambers are combined. Part of the exhaust may be re-circulated to the chamber(s) receiving additional fuel.
