1460616 Reducing exhaust gas pollutants MITSUBISHI JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 17 April 1974 16873/74 Heading F1B A method of operating an I.C. engine having multiple cylinders A, A, B, B comprises supplying rich mixture to a first set A and lean mixture to a second set B, igniting the mixtures and combining the hot exhaust gases from the cylinders in a reactor (13, not shown). The overall exhaust mixture ratio of air/unburnt fuel is arranged to be 15:1 to 17:1; orwith secondary air fed into the exhaust system or reactor, the exhaust mixture ratio emanating from the cylinders may be 13:1 to 15:1.
