Abstract

The main body of the gold club head is made of a tough hard wood which is coated over all with a cellulose varnish. The head has two almost smooth parallel surfaces (9, 10) with two side faces, a smooth flat front striking surface (12) and a rounded rear face. The rear face is completely covered by a soft metal stiffener plate (14) which is fixed on by an epoxy resin. This cover plate (14) helps to bound back the shock waves within the club head. In the sides of the striking face (12) are bored two holes (15) which are filled with a substance of high specific gravity e.g. lead, to give the club added weight.
