Abstract

Appts. is for transferring a liquid in one receiver through the cap to a second receiver through its cap. A tubular body with open ends adapted to cover at each end the necks of the two receivers has a central transverse partition. Through the partition wall a hollow needle with pointed ends passes through the caps of the two receivers. The partition wall also supports >=1 second hollow needle with one pointed end which passes through the cap of one of the two receivers. The other end, which only slightly extends through the partition or not at all, is always in contact with the atmosphere. Process for transferring liquids, partic. a solvent contained in one closed bottle to a lyophilised vaccine contained in another closed bottle, employs the above apparatus by piercing the cap of each bottle to connect the bottles via the long hollow needle. The appts. is used to transfer a liquid which it is desirable not to open to respective receivers. It is esp. used for adding solvent to multiple doses of vaccine contained in one receiver. Previously hollow needles above were used requiring the solvent bottle to be held by the operator during the solvent addition making it difficult for the operator to prepare several multi dose flasks of vaccine at the same time. Where massive vaccination campaigns are carried out in a few days, speed is required. The above overcomes these difficulties and is cheap simple and effective.
