Abstract

Gas laser using a vacuum-tight discharge tube where at least the jacket is made of glass and at least one end is closed by a metal plate contg. a hole behind which is a mirror body on the outside of the tube. The mirrow body is located by a solder glass in a tubular metal holder soldered onto the metal plate forming the end cap on the tube; and that the coeffts. of thermal expansion of the glass jacket and the metal end caps; and of the mirror holder, the solder glass and the mirror body, are virtually the same. Each mirrow holder pref. has a reduced cross-section used for adjustments and the claims include pref. combinations of glass and metals with matched coeffts. of thermal expansion. Very efficient seals are obtd. giving the laser tube a long working life.
