Abstract

The machine comprises four unit heads on pedestal bases, in pairs side by side. One pair has milling heads (B, B'), mounted face to face with an adjustable gap between them, and the other pair has drilling heads (C, C'), similarly mounted, also with an adjustable gap. The milling heads carry face milling cutters; the drilling heads carry centre drills which are advanced and retracted by spring loaded cams. A carriage is mounted on a cross slide (A), operating in the gap between the heads using a hydropneumatic cylinder. Vee jaw clamps hold the bar or component, this being self centred beforehand by a swing aside positioning fixture.
