Abstract

A gas diffusion device is used for immersion in a liquid in which the gas is to be dissolved. A downpipe carries liquid down from the surface of a reservoir to a considerable depth where gas is diffused into this liquid, residual gas then being sepd. from gas satd-liquid so that this liquid can be reintroduced into the main reservoir at depth without being carried to the surface by residual gas. Used for dissolution of gases in liquid, partic. in water for treatment such as aeration of polluted waste waters, chlorination, ozonising, oxygenation etc. The gas content is maximised at all depths because residual gas no longer rushes treated liquid to the surface. Treatment reservoirs, trout farm tanks etc. can be made deeper and more compact.
