Abstract

Thermoplastic bituminous compsn. comprises (a) 3-50% of an amorphous propylene homo- or copolymer, (b) 3-50% of the distillation residue from cyclododecatriene prodn. and (c) 20-94% bitumen. The compsns. remain plastic over an extended temp. range, i.e. >150 degrees C, they have a smooth non-tacky surface which can be cured by addition of driers, e.g. cobalt octoate or -naphthenate. The presence of (b) permits identical penetration of the compsn. over the above wide plasticity temp. range. The compsns. show good adhesion to wood, glass, stone, concrete, ceramic matls. and synthetic matls. and thus have wide application, e.g. binders for roads, fusible adhesives for rubbers, anti-corrosion agents, bituminous card board etc.
