Abstract

The apparatus is used for the storage of solar heat in the soil of a greenhouse by means of subterranean water pipes. The pipes can be made of some cheap plastics material of approx. 25 mm internal diameter and they may be placed at a depth of 0.30 m, at one m/intervals. The operation of the system involves a series of thermostatically controlled valves, which stop the supply of hot water from a reservoir when the temperature becomes too high. Another thermostat can set off a hot air blower if there should be a dangerous fall in temperature during the night. This enables a less expensive heat absorber to be used with safety, when rapid heating is required.
