Abstract

A large diameter fan has blades (48) on the ends of arms (46) radiating from a central hub, and above this is a small-diameter fan (50), rotating on the same axis and preventing the current of air generated by the large fan from flowing back again through the centre, and running at a higher speed and in the opposite direction. The reduction gear driving the large fan also drives a speed increasing gear for the small one, and the large fan is driven by a main shaft running in a plain bearing.
