Abstract

New morphine derivs. of formula (I): (n=3 or 4), are prepd. from morphine base by reaction in aq. medium with appropriate sultone. (I) are antitussives and analgesics useful for treating respiratory disorders (e.g. rhino-pharyngitis, laryngitis, etc) and pain (e.g. dental, articular or muscular). The i, p. LD50 (animal not specified) is 2,150 mg/kg. c.f. 370 mg/kg for morphine hydrochloride and in mice a dose of 1 g/kg does not cause addiction (as determined by response to a subsequent injection of nalorphine). Proposed human dose is 10-30 mg/day.
