Abstract

14-DELTA Vincine (I) has activity as a local anaesthetic, antitussive, and sedative, 14-DELTA-16-epi vincine (II) has the same activity as (I) and is also an analgesic, and vincine (III) is a local anaesthetic and antitussive. These cpds. have all been described in the parent patent. In an example, the antitussive activities of (I) and (III) tartrates and (II) hydrochloride were tested in guinea pigs at dosage of 3 mg/kg. body wt.; 90 mins. after treatment (I) reduced coughing by 87%, (II) reduced it by 53.9% and (III) reduced it by 71.9%.
