Abstract

The system allows the sender of an item to indicate the address of the recipient in a manner easily read by an automatic sorting machine. Separate letters, numbers or signs etc are placed in a suitable order on the item. The letters etc can have special characteristics to suit the machine. They can have self-adhesive supports such as stamps, labels etc., with datum marks for use in conjunction with standard postage stamps. Magnetic or phosphorescent properties may be made use of, as well as the visible markings.
