Abstract

A vacuum cleaner attachment for cleaning carpets etc. has a rectangular casing (10) which contains a cylindrical brush (14) mounted in bearings parallel to one long side. This brush is rotated by an electrical motor (16) through a flexible belt drive. The motor is installed in a recess (40) formed by one wall of the evacuation area (30) for the dust and is protected by one side wall (34, 38) of the recess. The shaft (52) of the motor passes through a sealing partition (50) which provides protection against dust contaminating the motor. A plate seals the motor recess. The dust is sucked past a guide plate (44) and through a constriction formed by the walls of the evacuation area to a combined hose and handle.
