Abstract
Measurement of heat used in a hot water central heating system employs a thermocouple with one junction attached to the inlet and one junction attached to the outlet. The junctions power a voltmeter giving temperature difference thus eliminating the need for mains or battery power supplies. One thermocouple junction (4) is attached to the hot water pipe (1) of a central heating system and a second junction (5) is attached to the return flow pipe (2). The junctions are connected to a voltmeter (10) measuring temperature difference. Water flow is measured by a flowmeter (D) driving a cam (11) with a spar (12) which causes a second cam (14) with steps (15) to but against the voltmeter pointer (19). During descent the second cam operates a ratchet (21) on a counter (22) giving heat used.
