Abstract
A multiple-focal length lens (e.g. bifocal) is produced by (a) laminating a layer of a high R.I. opthalmic material to another layer with relatively low R.I., forming an interface with high-low index (b) shaping >=1 part of the laminate into a generally meniscus-shaped rough lens, with meniscus-shaped interface (c) grinding opposite sides to the radii desired for convex object and concave ocular surfaces, continuing the grinding on each side towards the interface according to the desired proportions and orientation etc. to produce the required multiple focussing property. All the rough lenses have the same basic geometry.
