Abstract

A moulding assembly for the mfr. of plastic cartridge cases is claimed. The case is made from a plastic, hollow cylinder with one closed end which sits in a cavity of the movable half of a split mould, the closed end being surrounded by an annular groove sunk into this half of that mould. The fixed half of the mould has a coaxial cylindrical cavity which sleeves the plastic cylinder when the mould is closed, and three pipe passages leading through the backing platen of the fixed half into the interior of the plastic cylinder, i.e. to carry respectively, (a) incoming hot fluid, (b) incoming cold fluid, nc) exhaust fluid via a pressure relief valve. The fluid is pref. compressed air or water under pressure. Suitable plastics are polypropylene, PVC, polyethylene and polyamides. Used in the prodn. of a plastic cartridge case with annular flared base for blank cartridges, small calibre live ammunition, ammunition for industrial stud drivers and for animal slaughtering pistols.
