Abstract

The cutting of a T-slot in a wooden plank used for lining and insulating the interior of a liquid gas tank on a marine tanker, so that a T-shaped metal strip can be inserted and used for welding on metal cladding sheets, includes first cutting a conventional parallel sided slot down the plank by using a milling disc rotating about a horizontal axis, then making the cross portion of the slot by using a milling disc rotating about a vertical axis. The second milling disc and its drive are supported by a frame from which is suspended a pair of compressed air jets which direct two jets of air from opposite sides of the spindle onto the disc, cooling the disc and the wood and blowing out the cut wood chips, preventing damage and ignition.
