Abstract

This pin is for rapid manual assembly and dismantling of mechanical components and consists of a tubular body (1) with one end (2) flanged and the other conically tapered (4). The tube is bored out and is countersunk (3) at the flanged end. It has a diametral slot cut across the other end. Inside the tube is fitted a loop os spring wire tending to spring outwards against the walls and having its ends (10a, 10b) bent backwards and inwards. These ends cross over inside the tube so that a transverse hollow pin (7) may be fitted to prevent the spring falling out accidentally. Outward flares (14) are also made in the wire so that when the loop (8) is pulled, the ends (10a, 10b) are automatically retracted. During insertion, the wire ends are forced into the transverse slot. When fully inserted, the ends spring out again and retain the pin, but pulling on the loop (8) easily reverses the action. A retention pin (13) is passed through the hollow pin (7) after assembly.
