Abstract

Appts. for stretching the edges of fabric ribbons, before passing to the stentor chains of a spreader, comprises a drawing disc powered by an independent electro-motor through an induction coupling. The design ensures that the edges are spread out under control, without damaging sensitive fabrics, without causing the drawing disc to slip. Specif., the electro-motor drives the induction coupling at a constant speed. According to the adjustable current, the induction coupling transmits a portion of the torque to the drawing disc through toothed wheels. The ribbon matl. is clamped between the drawing disc and a continuous belting so that there is no slipping, the constant torque ensuring that the drawing disc applies a constant pull on the edges of the ribbon. The position of the ribbon edge is monitored, and the degree of tension applied to the edges is controlled by the current applied to the induction doupling.
