Abstract

Vitrifiable matl. of the stoneware, porcelain or faience type, having high stability in the unfired condition and capable of withstanding wide and sudden temp. fluctuations, consists of >=30 wt. % of a natural Li-contg. mineral (I), esp. petalite or spodumene, and 0.5-5 wt. % of an organic resin, pref. polyvinyl acetate with opt. is not >40 wt. % >=1 other ethylenically unsatd. monomers. (I) have a very low coefft. of thermal expansion so provide resistance to temp. fluctuations, and (II) act as binders to confer mechanical strength on the paste before and during moulding and in the furnace. The no. of rejected articles is reduced and the articles produced can be safely exposed to open flames and transferred from refrigerator to oven.
