Abstract

Damping of a motor vehicle suspension is tested by the measurement of the reaction of the wheel at the ground. Measurement of minimum reaction and reaction at resonance eliminates the need for specification tables for various vehicles. A motor vehicle wheel is located on a platform supported by a hydraulic jacket which is supplied from a pump. The jack feed pipe is also connected to the contents of a cylinder in which a piston acts in response to a motor driven cam. This excites the vehicle suspension which reacts on a flywheel on the motor when the motor current is switched off and is registered on a recorder. A manometer is also employed in the measuring circuit.
