Abstract

Equipment for crystallisation nof polyester materials in granular form by cascading the pellets from a chute at a height of about 400 mm above a vertically vibrating fluidised bed fed with air at 140-160 degrees C. The rectangular bed continuously discharges pellets from one end. The shower of pellets is directed to miss the sidewalls of the bed by 40 mm and the input and output end walls by 200 and 400 mm respectively. The fluidised bed, motion generates forces >=1.5 g (gravity). Suitable for crystallisation of granules of 5 x 5 x 2 mm size at material temps. of 85-95 degrees C. The process/equipment inhibits agglomeration of the granules due to cohesion of a liquid coating which appears on the surface of the crystallising granules.
