Abstract

Hybrid power supply for vehicles driven by an electric motor, is such that whilst the distance that can be covered on one battery charge is maximised, atmospheric pollution due to the internal combustion engine on the vehicle (T) is kept low. The power source consists of a bank of accumulators and an IC engine or other heat engine driving a dynamo or alternator (D) which serves to maintain the charge of the batteries or to supplement the supply of current to the motor. The output from the dynamo is switched automatically or manually and the circuitry includes a rectifying system for normal charging of the accumulator and a step down transformer for connection to the public supply.
