Abstract

A heat exchanger for transferring heat between two liquids flowing countercurrent to one another has a tube bundle formed by a number of deformable envelopes each one being made from two sheets of synthetic material joined together along a number of horizontal lines, forming flow channels between the lines. The envelopes are stretched and supported parallel to one another in a vessel which constitutes the shell, through which the other liquid flows. The envelopes are kept parallel and regularly spaced by some of the channels being larger than the others and touching the corresp. enlargements in the adjacent envelopes. The shell has gutters and deflectors which impart a helicoidal flow to the shell-side liquid. The exchanger may be made in very large sizes, having large capacities, at a low cost because of the low cost of the envelopes forming the tubes. Construction is simple.
