Abstract
The heat exchanger comprises >=3 concentric tubes forming 2 annular flow passages, each equipped with inlet and outlet for the medium flowing through them. A spiral strip is fixed in each annular passage, the spirals in adjacent annular passages being wound in the opposite sense. The heat exchanger is built up of a number of the above basic elements, each terminating in an end piece with feed and discharge passages and the bundle linked by an end manifold. The end pieces are pref. attached by means of a screwed connection on one of the concentric tubes. By selecting the pitch of the spiral wound elements, a wide range of medium throughputs can be obtd. using the standard tubes and fittings without changing the Reynolds number or the heat transfer per length of travel by the media.
