Abstract

In the enamelling of aluminium kitchen utensils by depositing a frit on the metal and then heating to cause it to fuse, at finely powdered quartz is incorporated in the frit before its deposition, in an amount 0.1-30 wt.% and more esp. 15 wt.% of the final mixt. The quartx powder pref. has a smaller particle size e.g. 0.038 mm, than that (0.048 mm) of the main body of the frit. The frit mixt. is fused and bonded to the metal by heating to ca 560 degrees C. Not only is the wear resistance of the enamel improved but food adheres to it only slightly and it has a pleasing satin appearance.
