Abstract
3-Phenoxybenzyl halide is isolated from halogenated 3-phenoxytoluene by reaction with a cpd. AH to form the quat. salt. This quat. salt is reacted with Z-COOH (opt. as alkali metal, ammonium or alkylammonium salt) to give the insecticidal title cpd. of formula (I) (where Z is a gp. (II) or (III) R1 = H or methyl; R2 = methyl, vinyl, 2,2-dicholorovinyl, 1-propenyl, 2-methyl-1-propenyl, 2-carbomethoxy-1-propenyl, 2-methoxymethyl-1-propenyl, 1,3-butadienyl, 2-methyl-1,3-butadienyl or cyclopentylidene methyl when R1 = H or R2 = methyl when R1 = methyl; R3 = ethyl or isopropyl; R4 = H, 1-4C alkyl, methoxy; halo or methylenedioxy; A = alkylamino, pyridine or N-alkylaniline and X = halo).
