Abstract

An organic fertiliser which liberates nitrogen slowly contains microorganisms, obtained by industrial fermentations, which have been heat-dried and so rendered incapable of developing. The fertiliser may also contain an agricultural substrate such as soil or compost. The thermal treatment affects the microbial cells so that the nitrogenous material is liberated only slowly. Pref. microorganisms is Candida tropicalis.
