Abstract
A method of treating anemone bulbs to prevent or modify their germination, comprises saturating the bulbs in water, e.g. for thirty-six to forty-eight hours at room temperature, surface-drying the bulbs, e.g. at 4 DEG to 6 DEG C., preferably 4.5 DEG to 5.5 DEG C. for seven to ten days, and then enclosing the bulbs in air-tight packages such as plastic bags. If the packed bulbs are to develop no apparent germs, they are submitted to a temperature of 1 DEG or 2 DEG C., or lower, for fifteen days or more. If fully apparent germs are required, the drying temperature, after the seven to ten day period, is raised, over four or five days, to 13 DEG C., and this temperature is maintained for ten more days.
