Abstract

A bushing assembly for discharging molten mineral material in fibre form through multiple orifices in the bottom wall is provided with a support structure comprising >=1 or more elongate members which extend between two opposed walls of the assembly and are secured to the bottom wall. Pref. the elongate members are tubular, with reinforcing ceramic rods extending through them and extending beyond them to be embedded in castable refractory materials, the tubes being attached to the bottom wall by members spaced along them and oriented transversely to the bottom wall. The provision of a support structure minimises the sagging of the bottom wall of the bushing resulting from increased operating temperatures necessary for processing more refractory materials, and from the use of larger bushings to provide a larger number of orifices. A longer life is therefore obtained, while there is no interference with fibre prodn.
