Abstract
In the locating of a leak at the level of the fuel rods in a nuclear reactor, after removal of the cover and with the use of a water shield together with a pressure vessel on which a number of vertical fuel assemblies are arranged and located by their upper end for injecting a fluid under pressure the bell being put in place on the core grid and a fuel assembly by means of the pressure fluid injection so that cooling water present in the fuel assembly is prevented in known manner from leaving, the improvement whereby (a) a substantial part of the fuel assembly cooling water enriched in fission prods. is extracted from the fuel assembly by pumping, (b) the water pumped is traversed and entrained by a jet of gas circulating in closed circuit at a level above the bell, and also passing through a measuring chamber for measuring the radioactivity, the fission gases being released in most of the cooling water enriched to a pressure of water less than the lowest water pressure in the bell.
