Abstract
A pipe-line pressure filter partic. for drinking water is claimed, of the type in which impurities are filtered out by a straining element which is self-cleaning and drops the impurities into a trap cavity beneath the element. The whole of the filter unit body is opaque to light and the trap cavity si automatically cleared periodically via a discharge pipe leading from the filter body to a solenoid valve operated by a timer. The solenoid valve and timer can be located on the top or on the bottom of the filter, or the valve can be on the filter but operated by a timer remote from the filter.
