Abstract

The discharge path units (1) are electrically and mechanically in series, and are each located inside an insulated gas filled tube or chamber (2). Each end of each container or tube is closed with a disc of conducting material (4) which bears against the discharge element, and each disc has an extended rim (6) which makes contact with non-linear discharge resistors (7, 7') arranged around the insulated tubes. The resistors are separated from each other by suitably dimensioned gaps which may be filled with insulation blocks for mechanical strength. The whole assembly is contained in a metal housing forming part of the general installation and filled with insulating gas, for example (SF6).
